Two men, ages 24 and 55, were shot inside a Bronx apartment building Friday night, police said.
Around 8 p.m. a person walked into the building, on Hoe Ave. near Home St., and blasted both victims, who live in the same apartment, according to police and relatives.
Later Friday night, a woman rushing to the apartment where the men live said the older of the two was in a relationship with the younger one’s mother.
“My nephew and his mother’s boyfriend got shot. I don’t know why,” she said, not giving her name. “They both got hit and ran into the apartment,” she added.
The 24-year-old man was hit once in the right arm and the 55-year-old was struck once in the buttocks, cops said. Medics transported both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
Police are still searching for the gunman. The investigation is ongoing.
The double shooting happened the day after the NYPD announced on X that there had been no shootings over the past five days — setting a historic record — amid the arctic blast of freezing weather that had everyone, including criminals, seeking shelter indoors.
“For the first time in 30 years, there have been 0 shooting victims in New York City for a 5-day period,” the department posted on social media Thursday night. “This is the longest we’ve gone without a shooting victim since the beginning of the CompStat era and is a result of the brave work that the members of the NYPD do every day.”
About 5 minutes after that X post, the streak ended when a 34-year-old man was shot in the leg in Brooklyn. Three hours after that, a 17-year-old boy was blasted in the thigh in the Soundview section of the Bronx. Both victims are stable.
