Young man gunned down inside Queens building lobby

A young man was fatally shot in the lobby of a Queens building Monday, police said.

Cops raced to the building on 209th St. near 86th Drive in Queens Village just before 4:40 p.m. after getting reports of gunfire, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found the 20-year-old victim, Ikechukwu Onodu, with gunshot wounds to the chest and neck in the lobby of the building, police sources said.

Medics rushed Onodu to North Shore University Hospital, but he could not be saved.

“Two guys followed him into the building and lit him up,” said a resident, who did not give his name. “They shot him twice in the chest area. He was gone.”

Police believe at least two men in their 20s took off on foot after the bloodshed.

At the scene of the attack, the victim’s jacket and hat laid on the floor of the vestibule as police continued to investigate Monday night. A building resident believes the violence stemmed from “a crew” who began hanging out near a stairwell.

“They started hanging out from the last month,” said the man, who asked not to be named. “It definitely emanated from that. I had no idea from where they came.”
