Talk about a snug situation.
Benson Boone apologized for making an onstage crotch grab Sunday at the 2025 Grammys after the moment went viral on social media.
The “Slow It Down” singer, 22, made his mea culpa on his Instagram story early Monday morning.
“Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight,” Boone wrote across a shirtless selfie in bed, adding, “That thing was extremely restricting in certain areas.”
“That thing” Boone was referring to was his low-cut, baby blue sequined jumpsuit. The ’70s-style bell-bottom mesh one-piece was designed by the singer’s stylist, Monty Jackson, per Women’s Wear Daily, and was revealed after Heidi Klum and Nikki Glaser ripped off a black tuxedo Boone was wearing as he began singing his hit “Beautiful Things.”
After being stripped down, the “American Idol” Season 19 alum darted toward the stage, where he did two of his signature backflips while belting his heart out. It wasn’t until the performance wrapped that Boone readjusted his nether regions while receiving applause from the audience.
Social media quickly lit up with reactions to the pinched moment.
“I will be thinking about Benson Boone’s crotch grab for…a WHILE,” one person wrote on X. Another commented, “Did anyone see Benson Boone grab himself on stage or am I just imagining things?”
“Benson Boone and this beautiful thing that he’s got at the #GRAMMYs,” someone else posted.
The Monroe, Washington, native was among this year’s Best New Artist nominees. Though the trophy ultimately went to Chappell Roan, Boone was among those inside the Crypto.com Arena who applauded the “Pink Pony Club” chanteuse as she used her acceptance speech to call on record labels to provide developing artists a living wage and healthcare.
Tear-away clothing was popular during Sunday night’s awards ceremony, with Best Rap Album winner Doechii stripping down for her medley of “Catfish” and “Denial Is a River,” and Sabrina Carpenter paying homage to Goldie Hawn as she ripped away a sparkly tux and tie to reveal a corseted baby blue minidress.
For his part, Boone has been known to purposefully incite thirst from his fans, frequently posting shirtless snaps on his Instagram. He even got a little help from fellow Best New Artist nominee Teddy Swims back in December, posting a video of Swims rubbing him down with moisturizer as Boone prepared to take the stage at one of the 2024 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour shows.
“There’s no better moisturizer than @teddyswims,” Boone captioned the clip shared on his Instagram story.
