A man was arrested Thursday at Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport after allegedly saying he had a bomb in his bag, according to New Haven Police.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. as the man was boarding an Avelo Airlines flight to Charlotte, N.C. He allegedly made “sarcastic” comments about possessing a bomb, and also told another passenger it looked like their bag had a bomb.
The man was detained by TSA and passengers were taken off the plane as authorities conducted a security sweep. An airport spokesperson told WTNH that officials also evacuated the terminal and delayed all planes as a precaution.
Operations resumed around 1 p.m. with all passengers being rescreened by security.
“No devices were found, no threats were made and there are no ongoing safety concerns,” New Haven Police confirmed Thursday afternoon.
The unidentified suspect was charged with second-degree breach of peace.
“The remark — though made sarcastically — disrupted airport operations and the safety of its passengers,” airport officials said, according to NBC Connecticut.
