A$AP Rocky is stepping into a new role just days after celebrating a not guilty verdict in his recent shooting trial.
The Harlem born rapper now makes history as the first ever creative director of Ray-Ban, guiding creative projects for the fashion brand and redesigning their retail spaces.
The musician and entrepreneur’s first order of business is releasing a new lineup of frames with a new lens type called the “Blacked Out collection,” due out in April.
“Today, we are welcoming A$AP Rocky into our family; he’s a visionary artist and creator,” Ray-Ban president Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio said in a statement. “His ability to push the boundaries of the diverse worlds he explores, aligns with the Ray-Ban DNA. We are reinforcing the brand’s values of innovation, pioneering spirit, and courage. Let the future begin!”
Rocky is no stranger to the brand as he has been seen wearing their classic Wayfarer frames in the courtroom during his felony assault trial in Los Angeles. “I’ve always admired Ray-Ban’s ability to stay true to its roots while constantly evolving,” A$AP Rocky said in a statement. “I’m excited to be part of the strong heritage and develop the next chapter for an iconic brand like Ray-Ban.”
The announcement comes mere days after Rocky was acquitted on two charges of felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The rapper was accused of firing at his former friend in 2021.
After a three-hour deliberation on Tuesday, the verdict was announced at at Los Angeles’ Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
A source tells People that Rocky and his girlfriend, Grammy-winning singer Rihanna, are focusing on raising their two sons, Riot and RZA. “They have lived in this stressful bubble for the past month. It’s been all about the trial. They are planning a family trip with the kids to spend some quality family time and to get their minds in a better place.”
In October, Rocky was also announced as a co-chair for the upcoming 2025 Met Gala, along with Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and honorary chair Lebron James.
