South Carolina man shot dead in bobby-trapped home of relative

A South Carolina man was fatally shot while walking into the booby-trapped house of his imprisoned uncle.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said a shooting was reported Monday night at a vacant house in St. Matthews — about 85 miles northwest of Charleston. Deputies discovered Jordan Dove, 34, inside the home with a gunshot wound. He later died at a hospital.

The house is owned by Alfonzo Brown — Dove’s uncle, who is in prison out of state, the sheriff’s office said.

“Upon getting to the scene, it was determined very quickly that the discharge of the firearm came from inside the residence,” police said.

Inside the home, deputies discovered, and were able to dismantle, a “shotgun that was rigged at the back door to go off once anyone attempted to gain entry.”

The front door was also barricaded, and there were no other resident’s at the house.

Sheriff Thomas Summers said the trap appeared to intended for law enforcement who came to the house. He added that charges against Brown were “forthcoming.”

No other details about what was found in the house were released.

Brown, 66, was arrested in January for allegedly shooting three other family members in Prince George County, Maryland.

“He left here to go to Maryland to commit the crimes,” Summers told WUSA9. “We feel like he knew he would be on the run.”
