The bad boys of music and comedy are teaming up.
Controversial country superstar Zach Bryan just announced he’s co-headlining South Bend, IN’s Notre Dame Stadium with button-pushing stand-up Shane Gillis on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Pop rocker Dermot Kennedy is also slated to join the pair at the one-off gig on the Fighting Irish’s home field.
Three weeks after, Bryan will entertain alongside John Mayer and Ryan Bingham at Ann Arbor, MI’s Michigan Stadium on Sept. 27. Following that massive gig, the “Quittin’ Time” singer may call it quits for a minute.
“This will be one of the last shows we announce,” Bryan shared on Instagram. “Thank you guys for understanding the boys and me taking time away from the road. Couldn’t go without having some of the most talented people I know play with me out at Notre Dame. Love you guys and feel more blessed by the day.”
Prior to these huge concerts, Bryan has back-to-back-to-back nights lined up at East Rutherford, NJ’s MetLife Stadium on Friday, July 18, Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 with special guest Kings of Leon.
As for Gillis, he’s scheduled to make a pair of New York stops on his ongoing tour this spring. First, he hits Albany’s MVP Arena on Friday, May 2. The next night, Saturday, May 3, he’ll be at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center.

Zach Bryan new music
The 28-year-old released his fifth studio album “The Great American Bar Scene” on Independence Day 2024.
Clocking in at 63 minutes — yet never even coming close to wearing out its welcome — the earnest, warts-and-all singer delivers more of his no-frills, middle-American poetry that celebrates life’s small pleasures and devastating heartbreaks.
After a few plays, our team fell in love with the spoken word, chills-inducing lead track “Lucky Enough (Poem)” as well as the harmonica-heavy “The Great American Bar Scene” and rousing Springsteen-esque “American Nights.”
The show-stopping “Oak Island,” twinkly “Bass Boat” and the Springsteen duet “Sandpaper” also stand out.
However, “Towers,” a hair-raising gospel tune, towers above the rest of the album. Fingers crossed, it becomes a tour staple complete with a choir.

Zach Bryan controversy
On Oct. 22, Bryan broke up with BFFs Podcast co-host Brianna LaPaglia (who goes by Brianna Chickenfry). Over Instagram Stories, the 25-year-old shared that she wasn’t expecting a relationship dissolution and denied $12 million to sign an NDA.
‘I don’t want, in two years, to buy a f***ing house and think, “Oh, this is the money from the dude that literally f***ing destroyed me and broke me for a year” – f*** that,’ she said.
In the weeks since the very public split, LaPaglia has spilled details about how Bryan’s emotionally abused her, threw objects at her face and kept their cat Stump.
“I obviously think he’s not responding because if he is to respond, he has to deny it then I post all the videos and the recordings,” Chickenfry pointed out on BFFs. “I think the response itself, the silence, is deafening. I think his response proves his character again.”
Shane Gillis controversy
Once Gillis was hired by Lorne Michaels and “Saturday Night Live” in 2019, the floodgates opened. Anti-Asian slurs and offensive characterizations from his “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” were unearthed, quickly made headlines and led to a swift falling out.
Rather than maintain a low profile, Gillis apologized, saying “it feels ridiculous for comedians to making serious public statements but here we are.”
“I’m a comedian who was funny enough to get ‘SNL.’ That can’t be taken away. Of course I wanted an opportunity to prove myself at ‘SNL,’ but I understand it would be too much of a distraction. I respect the decision they made. I’m honestly grateful for the opportunity. I was always a [‘MADTv’] guy anyway.”
And, while one might think that he’s learned from his mistakes, Gillis said “I definitely wouldn’t have changed what we did, our podcast,” in 2021. That didn’t stop “Saturday Night Live” from bringing him into host in February 2024 after the success of his Netflix stand-up specials. While on the show, he made cheap cracks directed at members of his family with Down syndrome.
Comedy critic Seth Simons, who has written about Gillis often, says his racist and anti-Semitic jokes “should horrify us not because they are hateful but because they are full of joy.”
Still, “Saturday Night Live” continues to let him off the hook; Gillis has now hosted the long-running sketch show twice.
“He said something stupid, but it got blown up into the end of the world,” showrunner Lorne Michaels said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “I was angry. I thought, ‘You haven’t seen what we’re going to do, and what I’m going to try to bring out in him, because I thought he was the real thing.’”
