One driver died and several people were injured in a four-vehicle crash Thursday in Bergen County, N.J., officials said.
The crash occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights — about 13 miles outside New York City. Officials did not immediately provide any other specifics about the victims or circumstances causing the crash.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and those who were hurt were taken to a local hospital with “varying degrees of injuries,” Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Deputy Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer said.
“Road closures and detours in the area of the highway are likely to remain in place while the investigation proceeds,” Angermeyer said.
The Hasbrouck Heights Police Department is investigating along with the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit and Fatal Accident Task Force.
