Meghan Markle’s Netflix series renewed despite dismal reviews

Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” has been renewed at Netflix and will drop a second season later this year, despite an onslaught of negative reviews for its freshman outing.

The second installment of the series will premiere this fall, and has already been filmed, People reported Friday.

The Duchess of Sussex confirmed the renewal on Instagram with a video montage of cooking sounds from her kitchen.

“Oh, how I love ASMR! If you’re loving Season 1, just wait until you see the fun we cooked up on Season 2!” she wrote. “Thanks for joining the party, and an endless thanks to the amazing team and crew who helped bring it all to life!”

The renewal news comes on the heels of both American and British critics taking the show to task for being a tone-deaf “ego trip,” lacking in relatability or real insight. The Telegraph went so far as to say the show is an “exercise in narcissism, filled with extravagant brunches, celebrity pals and business plugs.”

In one of the more scathing reviews, Decider said the “incredible disconnect between the fantasy of ‘With Love, Meghan’ and the reality we’re living in rather proves the Duchess of Sussex really is a princess, despite the haters.”

“Only a real royal could be this out of touch,” the outlet concluded.

Season one currently holds a 28% critics rating and an 18% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the show debuted on Netflix in the Top 10 among TV shows in the U.S., and was sitting at No. 7 as of Friday evening.

The series centers on Markle’s love of all things domestic — cooking, gardening and hosting — which extends to “As Ever,” the lifestyle brand she’ll be launching later this year. She announced last month she was rebranding the previously teased “American Riviera Orchard.”

“With Love, Meghan” marks the Duchess’ fifth collaboration with Netflix, having started with the 2022 docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” as part of the couple’s reportedly $100 million deal with the streaming service. (The reported figure has previously been disputed by a Netflix source.)
