Indiana mom arrested for threatening lesbian teacher with gun

An Indiana mom is accused of threatening her daughter’s sixth-grade teacher with a gun over a school assignment that allegedly referenced the Pride flag, authorities said this week.

Carrie Rivers, 48, was arrested last week after bringing a gun to the school and then sending the lesbian teacher harassing messages, according to Indianapolis station WTHR.

Officers with the Decatur Township School Police Department arrived at Valley Mills Elementary School in Indianapolis on Wednesday over a report of “irate parent” on campus.

An officer reportedly observed a gun holstered on Rivers’ hip and informed her she could be arrested for possessing the weapon on school property.

The woman then left the scene without further issue, but soon after sent the teacher messages that read “your (sic) a child predator” and “kiss ur kids goodbye and goodnight,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Another message sent on Facebook allegedly read, “Sick, nasty teacher, you should never tell precious innocent kids that it’s okay to be in a same sex relationship.”

The teacher told police the assignment, which Rivers’ daughter was allowed to skip, related to “the subject matter of flags.” When giving examples of flags from different countries and states, she said she also referred to the rainbow flag hanging in her classroom.

Rivers, who said she was withdrawing her child from the school, will not be allowed on campus again, according to the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township.
