Were they looking for an alligator?
A trio of men were arrested for trying to enter the Brooklyn sewer system, cops said Tuesday, though it was unclear if the classic urban myth was their M.O.
Willie Green, 39, Zion McKenzie, 25, and Shawan Thompson, 26, were caught attempting to get into the sewer system through a street manhole around 5:10 p.m. on 82nd St. and 17th Ave. in Bensonhurst on Monday.
One of them told cops upon their arrest, “I was hired to clean the sewer,” sources said.
The group were all charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal facilitation and criminal mischief.
Green has seven previous arrests, which involved strangulation, assault, reckless endangerment and violation of domestic order of protection. His most recent arrest was April 10, when he was charged with criminal mischief and assault. McKenzie and Thompson have no previous arrests.
The arraignment for the three was pending Tuesday afternoon at Brooklyn Criminal Court.
It remained unclear why the men were attempting to access the sewers.
