Spotify down as outages reported worldwide

Audio streaming platform Spotify was down Wednesday with outages reported around the world.

Thousands reported being unable to access the service around 8  a.m. EST, according to Down Detector.

Users of the app reported an unending loading screen while the website featured a 502 error message.

About an hour after the first reports were made, Spotify told TechRadar it had identified the issue and “an update ha[d] begun rolling out to all users.”

While the number of outages appeared to decline, Spotify posted on social media that rumors of a hack were misguided.

“We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible. The reports of this being a security hack are false,” the company’s @SpotifyCares X account posted around 10:40 a.m. EST.

“We’re seeing reports from users that the app isn’t loading properly or that they’re experiencing playback issues,” the company posted on its support website. “Others report that they’re having issues accessing the Support site. This seems to happen both on mobile and desktop devices.”

Spotify says it has more than 675 million users worldwide.
