A small plane crashed into a river in Nebraska, killing all three people onboard.
The aircraft fell from the sky on Friday and plunged into the Platte River south of Fremont around 8:15 p.m., the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Facebook.
Sergeant Brie Frank said first responders spanning multiple agencies descended on the scene shortly thereafter. She told reporters their dispatch center received a report from a witness who said they saw “a plane go down.”
Images from the scene show search crews scouring the river and pulling wreckage from the water. Frank said drones were also used during their search.
“The three occupants of the plane have been recovered and are confirmed deceased,” the statement said. “Those identities will not be released at this time pending next of kin notification.”
Few other details were provided. Authorities did not say who owned or operated the plane and the cause of the crash remained unclear as of Saturday morning.
The sheriff’s office said the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have taken over an investigation into the matter.
