International shipping service DHL stopped delivering packages valued above $800 from businesses to U.S. consumers Monday due to new U.S. Customs regulations.
The German company also said in a statement that business-to-business shipments to U.S. companies valued over $800 may face delays, but won’t be otherwise impacted by the service suspension impacting individuals. DHL blames changes on customs policies enacted around the start of the month.
“Effective April 5, 2025, all shipments to the U.S. with a declared customs value over USD 800 require formal entry processing — down from the previous USD 2,500 threshold due to new U.S. Customs regulations,” the company announced.
That change has led to a “surge” in formal customs clearances, which DHL said it’s working to accommodate. A 10% tariff implemented by the Trump administration in April is being blamed for the heightened scrutiny.
“This is a temporary measure, and we will share updates as the situation evolves,” the company stated in its announcement.
DHL said it services more than 220 countries and generated nearly $100 billion in revenue last year.
President Trump has threatened to impose a wide range of tariffs against U.S. allies and adversaries since taking office in January. His harshest levies have come against the China, whose goods being imported to the U.S. face a 145% tariff.
China warned countries around the world that trade agreements their leaders make with Trump at the expense of Chinese interests would fave “countermeasures.”
The U.S. stock market reacted negatively to a potentially global trade war; the Dow Jones closed Monday nearly 972 points lower than on its previous day of trading.
