An emotionally disturbed teen stabbed and wounded his mother and then threatened to set her bed on fire during a harrowing clash in the family’s Staten Island apartment, police said Wednesday.
Patrick Tulay told responding NYPD officers that “the voices in his head” told him to kill his mother, a police source said.
Tulay, 18, was inside the apartment he shares with his 52-year-old mother on Park Hill Ave. near Osgood Ave. when he grabbed a kitchen knife and lunged at her about 2 a.m., cops said.
He stabbed his mother multiple times in the head and body, cops said. He then lit a rag on fire and threatened to throw it into his mother’s bedroom to trap her and “prevent her from leaving,” the source said.
Medics rushed the mom to Richmond University Medical Center where she’s expected to survive.
When cops arrived, Tulay was hiding under a bed, the police source said. He quickly surrendered, telling cops about the voices in his head.
Tulay was hit with a slew of charges including attempted murder, arson, reckless endangerment and assault.
His arraignment in Staten Island Criminal Court is pending. He is expected to undergo a psychiatric exam.
