BALTIMORE — While the Yankees were bombarding Orioles starter Kyle Gibson to the tune of four home runs in the first inning of Tuesday’s game, Jazz Chisholm Jr. felt some discomfort in his right side.
The second baseman received a visit from the Yankees’ training staff two pitches into his first at-bat of the day. Chisholm decided to stay in the game after some practice swings, and he doubled right away. However, he quickly exited after a head-first slide into third base, as a Ramón Laureano error allowed him to advance.
Following the slide, third base coach Luis Rojas quickly motioned toward the Yankees’ dugout, indicating that Chisholm needed to come out of the game.
A little while later, the Yankees announced that Chisholm departed with “right flank discomfort.”
Oswald Peraza pinch-ran for Chisholm and took over at second base.
