Authorities on Monday identified a body found floating in the Connecticut River as that of a Glastonbury woman missing since March.
Mary Colasanto, 72, had last been seen near the Glastonbury Boathouse when she was reported missing March 30, WVIT-TV reported, and that is where police had been focusing their search.
A boater spotted the body off Ferry Park in Rocky Hill, about 7 miles down the river from the boathouse, around 9 a.m. Sunday, prompting an investigation.
Colasanto had parked her car at the Glastonbury Boathouse at Riverfront Park at approximately 12:30 a.m. the day she was reported missing, according to the U.S. Department of Justice National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUS).
“Colasanto was last seen walking towards the Connecticut River,” NamUS said. “Colasanto’s vehicle was discovered that same morning (several hours later) in the parking lot; however, she was unable to be located.”
The Glastonbury Police Department, Rocky Hill Police Department, Glastonbury Volunteer Fire Department, Rocky Hill Fire Department, and dive teams from the Portland and Middletown fire departments had all aided in the recovery, Glastonbury police Capt. Kevin Szydlo told The Darien Times.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s office was still determining her cause of death, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. James R. Gill told the Hartford Courant on Wednesday. A police investigation was continuing, WFSB-TV reported. The Rocky Hill Police Department has asked anyone with information to contact them.
