The parents of a 2-year-old girl who was found dead in a hotel room in Virginia last month have been charged with her murder, officials announced Friday.
William Nathaniel Fuller, 28, and Markita Ayanna Williams, 25, were arrested Thursday, a day after a toxicology report indicated their daughter had “fentanyl in her heart blood” when she was found at the Red Roof Inn hotel in Dumfries, about 30 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., on April 16.
When officers responded to the scene, the girl had already been declared dead by fire and rescue personnel, the Prince William County Police said in a news release.
A second child under the age of 6 found in the same room was determined to be unharmed and was released to the custody of the parents, officials said.
Police also recovered an unsecured firearm in the room.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the young victim, who was in the care of her parents, showed no signs of trauma or medical concerns.
Investigators also determined that while Williams contacted emergency services, Fuller “removed items from the hotel room before police and emergency services arrived at the hotel.”
Both parents were charged with one count each of felony murder, felony child neglect and drug possession.
Fuller also faces weapon charges, police said.
They are both being held without bond at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Jail and court dates are pending.
