Pope Leo XIV election ‘causing mayhem’ for ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 production

Emily in … Vatican City?

On Thursday, a new pope was announced: Pope Leo XIV (né Robert Prevost), the first American pope in history.

The chaos around the announcement has reportedly wreaked havoc on Season 5 of “Emily In Paris,” since the Lily Collins Netflix show is currently filming on location in Rome.

“All the news helicopters covering the new pope are causing mayhem and making so much noise,” a source told Us Weekly.

The Post reached out to Netflix for comment.

Collins, 36, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu were filming scenes but had to “redo takes because the noise is crazy,” the insider claimed.

The new pope was announced on May 8, after Pope Francis died on April 21 at age 88 after a prolonged battle with double pneumonia.

“Emily In Paris” follows Emily (Collins), an American woman who moves to France and has adventures in life and love, including a love triangle with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).

It’s long been a controversial show, as many viewers claim they “hate watch” it.

Brooklyn-based sports writer Greg Wyshynski, a fan of the show, told The Post in 2021, “Remember that scene in ‘Goodfellas’ where they slice the garlic with the razor so it just melts away in the pasta sauce? That’s how thin the characters, plots and stakes are for this television program.”

“No one learns. No one grows,” he went on. “Emily is less protagonist than a passenger in the back of a Parisian taxi … But it’s a good hate watch because it’s not aggressively bad or infuriating. It’s just pretty and it’s there.”

“It simply isn’t a good show, and the protagonist isn’t someone we are rooting for,” Alyssa Jennette, a Season 1 viewer and Harlem-based literary agent, told The Post in 2021.

“But [audiences] do enjoy watching pretty people in extravagant clothes do hijinks in beautiful locations, and if we can gleefully hate on that incredibly lucky, feckless protagonist at the same time from the isolation of our apartments, all the more fun,” she added.

By Season 4, she’s in Rome with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).

Creator Darren Star has previously stated the show won’t turn into “Emily in Rome.”

“She didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome,” he told Deadline in September 2024.

“She is working in Rome sometimes,” he noted. “Sylvie’s company has an office in Rome. Emily’s getting that on its feet. I don’t necessarily think that it means a permanent — in my mind, it’s definitely not a permanent — move to Rome. We’re not leaving Paris.”

No official release date has been announced yet for “Emily in Paris” Season 5.
