Staten Island driver fleeing NYPD stop for tinted windows fires at cops

An ex-con fired at an NYPD car he crashed into on Staten Island as he tried to avoid being stopped for driving with excessively tinted windows, police said Monday.

The 31-year-old driver refused to pull over when cops tried to stop his 2009 Nissan Murano on Port Richmond Ave. near Albion Place in Port Richmond about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The suspect sped off but struck a police cruiser nearby then fired multiple times at the vehicle, according to NYPD officials. Police officers did not return fire.

Three officers were hit by shattered glass and suffered minor injuries.

The suspect suffered a medical episode and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said officers found two guns in the Nissan.

Charges against him were pending Monday.
