Jayson Tatum was leading his defending champion Celtics squad to a late comeback in hopes to tie the series at 2-2.
Then Boston’s repeat title hopes went up in flames as the superstar suffered an apparent non-contact right leg injury with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter. The injury took place with Tatum being guarded by OG Anunoby on the perimeter. A nearby Jaylen Brown attempted a dribble drive into the paint and lost the ball as it rolled towards Tatum and Anunoby.
Anunoby retrieved the ball while Tatum immediately fell to the hardwood in pain. Anunoby then finished the fastbreak basket to extend the lead, 113-104. The Knicks eventually won, 121-133 to extend the series lead 3-1.
Boston continued the possession but later called a timeout as Tatum was unable to get to his feet. He was later carried off the court and didn’t return for the final minutes of Game 4.
Tatum left the matchup with 42 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks. He shot 16-for-28, including seven makes from downtown.
This is a developing story. Check back for details.
