A 32-year-old woman got the scare of her life when a stranger crept up behind her and tried to shoot her in the back of the head in a random execution attempt on a Bronx street, police said Wednesday.
Cops released surveillance footage of the suspect in the hopes he can be quickly identified and arrested before attempting to take anyone else’s life.
The victim had walked past a pharmacy on W. 183rd St. near Davidson Ave. in Fordham when the gunman, wearing a hooded black jacket, crept up behind her about 9 a.m. Friday.
He pulled a gun, pointed it at the back of the woman’s head and pulled the trigger — but the victim moved her head just in time, narrowly dodging the bullet, cops said.
The woman’s ponytail arced into the air as she jerked her head at the last moment, surveillance video recovered by cops shows, a police source said.
The force of the blast knocked the woman to the ground as the gunman ran off, cops said. She struck her head on the sidewalk and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was treated for a minor injury.
The gunman was last seen running south on Davidson Ave., cops said. The victim told police she had never seen him before he inexplicably tried to end her life.
The gunman is described as Black with a beard and about 6-feet and 200 pounds.
