James Bond contender Harris Dickinson addresses 007 speculation

The name’s Dickinson… Harris Dickinson.

On Thursday, the young actor, 28, addressed rumors that he’s in the running to be the new James Bond.

While at Cannes, Dickinson was asked who he thought should be the next British Secret Service agent in the franchise.

“Jonathan Bailey is your first choice, so let’s go with that,” said the star after the reporter stated Dickinson would be his third pick. “That sounds like a good idea.”

The British actor gained notoriety after starring in the erotic thriller “Baby Girl” opposite Nicole Kidman in 2024. Dickinson played an intern that had a torrid affair with his 57-year-old boss.

Rumors have swirled over who would portray 007 after Daniel Craig, 57, went on his final adventure in 2021’s “No Time to Die.”

In February, franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson sold a stake of the films to Amazon MGM Studios for a reported $1 billion.

A month later, it was announced that Amy Pascal — who helped bring Craig in as the 7th Bond — and David Heyman would be spearheading the next James Bond project.

By the time CinemaCon came around a week later, Amazon MGM shared that Pascal, 67, and Heyman, 63, were already in London “getting started” on the 26th Bond film.

Along with Craig, the other Bonds in the franchise have been Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

In March, Brosnan, 72, who portrayed Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, said it’s a “given” that the next man to suit up must be British.

He added that it was also the “right decision” for the franchise to be given to Amazon.

“It takes great courage for them to let go,” Brosnan told the Telegraph at the time. “I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect.”

“In this world that is moving so fast now, at the speed of light, [the takeover] does come with a certain lament,” the Irish star continued. “I thought it was coming for some time I guess, but I think it was the right decision for Barbara and Michael.”

“They will still have a say in matters,” Brosnan stated.

During his seven years as the martini-sipping agent, the actor starred in “GoldenEye” in 1995, “Tomorrow Never Dies” in 1997, 1999’s “The World Is Not Enough,” and “Die Another Day” in 2002.

“History has been passed on and I’m very proud to have been part of the history and the legacy of Bond and the movies that I made with Barbara and Michael,” Brosnan said.

Meanwhile, the name that has been floated around the most is actor Henry Cavill, the “loose second reserve choice when Daniel Craig got the role back in 2005,” according to Bond commentator and Mark O’Connell.

“What often happens in Bond is that the runner-up is kind of favored next time round. Roger Moore was looked at for Dr. No in the first Bond film. Timothy Dalton was looked at in the early ’70s,” the author, who wrote, “Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond Fan,” explained.

“The guys in waiting sometimes get their turn. And Henry Cavill’s worked with Amazon and he looks the part. He’s a great clotheshorse. I’d love it if it was ultimately Henry Cavill.”

But according to the editor and publisher of 007 Magazine Graham Rye, not everyone has that same feeling.

“Lots of fans want Henry Cavill, which only just proves to me that they don’t know what they’re talking about,” he told The Post. “The man’s just not James Bond.”

“There’s only one actor I’ve seen around that could do justice to the role very much in the style of Sean Connery,” Rye added, “and that’s an actor called Stuart Martin.”

Martin, 39, is best known for starring as the Duke in the British series “Miss Scarlet and the Duke” for four seasons from 2020 to 2024.

As Rye put it, “If Amazon fail to cast Stuart Martin in the 007 role in Bond 26, I shan’t be bothering to see the picture!”
