Brooklyn deli fire critically wounds 1, injures 3, including firefighter


One person is in critical condition after tumbling from a second-floor window, and three others were injured — including a firefighter — after a fire tore through a Brooklyn business Monday morning.

Around 60 firefighters and medics responded to a blaze at a three-story building that started on the second floor of M9 Deli and Grill around 7:08 a.m. near 39th St. and 9th Ave. in Sunset Park, FDNY officials said.

One man fell from an upper window as a firefighter tried to help him down, and was reported in critical condition. according to News 12 Brooklyn. There was blood on the ground as a result of the fall.

“They tried to help my roommate out the window,” one of the residents evacuated by ladder told News 12 Brooklyn. “But I don’t know what happened—I just saw him fall down. It’s tragic.”

Two other people suffered minor injuries — as well as a firefighter — from the blaze.

The flames were placed under control at 8:10 a.m.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear; FDNY fire marshals are investigating the blaze.
