A 3-year-old Connecticut girl suffered first-and-second-degree burns caused by a tabletop fire pit in Windsor Locks.
“WLPD learned that the father may have been lighting a small ‘table top fire pit’ and an unexpected gust of wind pushed the fire toward his three year old near the table,” the Windsor Lock Police Department said on Facebook Monday.
No one else was reported injured. The investigation is being handled by Windsor Lock firefighters.
Police included a photo of the tabletop unit, which they said shouldn’t be confused for a lager backyard fire pit that produces larger flames. Tabletop pits are used for making smaller snacks like s’mores. A permit isn’t required to use one.
One Facebook user thanked law enforcement for clarifying the child’s injuries were less severe than what was being described in reports of the incident she saw on social media.
