Comedian Fortune Feimster opened up Monday about her pending divorce from wife Jacquelyn “Jax” Smith after nearly five years of marriage.
“Together, we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,” Feimster wrote on Instagram. “We’ve been separated for a little bit, both of us dealing with tough health situations in our families, so it wasn’t something we were ready to talk about.
“While we are sad to see this chapter of our lives come to a close, we wish each other nothing but the best as we move forward. We’ve had 10 years together, and there’s so much to celebrate about that and so much we will look back on fondly. Out of respect to each other and our families, we ask for privacy as we navigate this challenging time in both our lives.”
The note was posted on Feimster’s account, but signed “From Jax and me.”
The 44-year-old comic and Smith, a teacher, began dating in 2015 after meeting at a Chicago Pride event — the day after the Supreme Court ruled to make same-sex marriage legal. They tied the knot in 2020.
Outside of her standup comedy career, Feimster’s credits also include “The Mindy Project,” “Chelsea Lately” and “Office Christmas Party.”
