Sam’s Club tosses $10K worth of urine-damaged goods

A Florida Sam’s Club was forced to throw away more than $10,000 worth of Spam and Vienna sausages after a 70-year-old shopper allegedly urinated on the products.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by the Smoking Gun, the Lady Lake Police Department alleges Patrick Mitchell walked into the Orlando-area store late last month and was seen exhibiting “behavior consistent with urination” on two pallets of food in aisle 18.

Mitchell, who reportedly moved to Florida from Long Island, is accused of then perusing the store’s snack aisle and relaxing on patio furniture before paying for his items and exiting the premises.

After Mitchell left the store, a manager noticed roughly 188 bulk units of Vienna sausage and 345 units of Spam had been “contaminated with bodily fluids” where Mitchell had been seen in aisle 18.

The merchandise, valued at nearly $10,600, then had to be thrown away.

Mitchell, identified as the suspect because he’d used his Sam’s Club card during his visit, was subsequently arrested at his home in The Villages retirement community. where he lives with his wife.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and felony criminal mischief, and was released on $3,000 bond.
