Teen boy dead, man critically injured in moped crash in Brooklyn

A 17-year-old boy died and an elderly man was in critical condition after a moped collision Monday in Brooklyn.

The teenager was riding a gas moped — with a passenger on the back — traveling north on East 8th St. in Midwood when it slammed into a Genesis G80 vehicle operated by a 71-year-old man making a left turn off East 8th St., cops said.

The moped driver then crashed into an unoccupied Honda Odyssey, launching the teen and his passenger off the moped. Both sustained trauma to the body.

EMS transported the teen and passenger to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition. The 17-year-old later died at the hospital.

The elderly operator of the Genesis G80 stayed at the scene, and wasn’t injured.

There were no arrests; the NYPD Highway District Collision Squad were investigating.

The incident comes in the wake of a death of a 22-year-old Brooklyn man riding his moped and colliding with a car driven by a drunken unlicensed driver Saturday.

Joel Mota was zipping south on Third Ave. in Bay Ridge when he crashed into the passenger-side door of a 2013 Acura TSX going west on 67th St. about 4:45 a.m.

Mota, who was known as a “hardworking man” who wanted to become a condo developer, according to his family, died at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn from head and torso injuries, cops said.

Police arrested the Acura driver, 29-year-old Leslie Moreno, for driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired and being unlicensed. She was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Sunday afternoon and released without bail.
