Whoopi Goldberg‘s talents seemingly know no bounds as the EGOT winner has just landed a role on the Italian soap opera “Un Posto al Sole.”
The 69-year-old actress was away from her daytime job on “The View” this week, but that didn’t stop her from snagging another gig. While vacationing in Italy, she announced a multi-episode role on the long-running, Italian-language drama.
“I just wanted to stop in and say how happy I am to be joining the cast of ‘Un Posto al Sole,’” Goldberg said in an Instagram video on Friday. “They know it’s a crazy idea, I know it’s a crazy idea, but what a wonderful thing to do. I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited.”
She ended the clip by acknowledging her “Italian is not perfect,” but teased that she and the show had “worked it out.”
The first soap opera entirely produced in Italy, “Un Posto al Sole” is set in Naples and follows the intertwining dramas of the residents of a luxury condominium.
Specific details of Goldberg’s role have not been revealed but the production company said the character will appear sometime this year as “part of a special storyline.”
Goldberg has longed for a non-English speaking role — dating back more than two decades when she secured the rights to portray legendary Cuban singer Celia Cruz in a biopic.
However, after many attempts to get the long-gestating project off the ground, it was called off for good.

“I can’t say enough about [Cruz]. We wanted to make a movie about her 35 years ago. I aged out,” the “Color Purple” star said during an episode of “The View” in January. “I had all my Spanish, I had everything!”
