Singer and actress Lily Allen says she draws a blank when it comes to how many pregnancies she’s terminated.
The 40-year-old Grammy and Olivier Award nominee made a candid confession about her experiences with abortion on a recent episode of her “Miss Me?” podcast.
“I have an IUD now … [but] before, that was a complete disaster area. I’d get pregnant all the time,” she told co-host Miquita Oliver of finally finding a birth control method that works for her.
“Abortions, I’ve had a few,” she added. “I can’t remember exactly how many … I think maybe like, I wanna say five. Four or five?”
Allen, who shares 12- and 13-year-old daughters with her ex-husband, Sam Cooper, even dished details on a past lover who never spoke to her again after paying for one of her procedures.
“I remember once getting pregnant and the man paying for my abortion, and me thinking it was so romantic,” she said without naming the man in question. “[Now] I don’t think it’s generous or romantic.”
Allen’s latest comments were not the first time she’s publicly addressed abortion, nor the shame that women often feel if they choose to undergo one.
“I [used to feel] really embarrassed to even say that I’ve had more than one abortion … [but] why the f— should I be ashamed?” she said in late June. “I would’ve hated if I didn’t have the option and the freedom to do what I needed to do for my own life.”
Earlier this year, the London native took a hiatus from her podcast and later confirmed she had undergone “lots of group therapy and individual therapy” after checking into a treatment center to deal with “emotional turmoil” amid her split from her second husband, “Strangers Things” star David Harbour.
The duo tied the knot in Las Vegas in September 2020 after meeting on the celebrity dating app Raya the previous year.
