Man, 70, fatally struck by Brooklyn Smart Car driver



A a 70-year-old man crossing a Brooklyn street around the corner from his home was fatally struck by a Smart Car driver, police said Tuesday.

Dov Broyde was crossing Avenue I at E. 5th St. near Midwood about 9:30 p.m. Monday when the driver plowed into him, cops said.

Medics rushed Broyde to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died.

Broyde was just a block from home when he was struck, according to cops.

The driver remained at the scene. No criminal charges were immediately filed.

As of last Thursday, 55 pedestrians had been killed by drivers in the city this year, eight fewer than by the same point last year, officials said.
