The end of Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers’ happily-ever-after comes down to dollars and cents, according to an insider.
A source told Us Weekly on Saturday that the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, 54, and 52-year-old Phypers “love each other but they haven’t been happy,” claiming that money has been causing serious issues in their marriage.
Phypers, a self-proclaimed wellness guru, was forced to shut down his Malibu health center last year amid claims of fraud involving treatments. He has earned zero income since, according to divorce documents obtained by TMZ, but claims they spend around $105,000 a month, including $20,000 on clothes, $15,000 dining out and $10,000 on groceries.
Phypers, who has requested spousal support, meanwhile estimates that Richards makes more than $250,000 a month from TV gigs, appearances, brand deals and her OnlyFans account.
While sources say Phypers has taken on more responsibility at home in recent months, his lack of financial contribution has reportedly “taken its toll” on Richards as she continues to fund his lifestyle and back his endeavors.
“He filed for divorce, but she can’t continue like this either,” Us Weekly’s source said. “She’s loved him for all he’s done and supported his dreams, but it’s also been a big financial burden on her that she can’t continue to carry.”
To make matters worse, Phypers was sued at the end of last year for the alleged fraud at his wellness center. According to the lawsuit obtained by People, Phypers made grandiose claims about the success rate of a stem cell treatment for cancer and promised the patient and her husband that he would refund them 50% of the cost if it didn’t work.
After the patient’s tumors expanded by 25%, she and her husband’s multiple requests for $63,000 back allegedly went ignored. The woman died in May of last year, after which her husband claims Phypers acknowledged the debt but continued to offer excuses as to why he couldn’t pay it.
