Unconscious boy pulled from water at Connecticut state park

An unconscious child was pulled from the water at a state park in Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon and rushed to the hospital.

The state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said the child went into the water from a boat launch at Indian Well State Park in Shelton around 4 p.m. and appeared to be in distress shortly thereafter.

Shelton Fire Department Deputy Chief Paul Wilson told Patch the victim was a 5-year-old boy.

First responders performed life-saving measures on the child before he was taken to Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for additional treatment.

The extent of the child’s injuries are unknown. The boy’s mother was also hospitalized with unknown injuries, according to DEEP.

“This incident is a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution around water, particularly in areas where lifeguards are not present,” DEEP said.
