Man, 30, shot during chain snatching attempt in Midtown

A 30-year-old man was shot in the stomach Saturday during an early-morning chain snatching in Midtown, police said.

The victim was walking down W. 46th St. near 11th Ave. in Hell’s Kitchen at about 2:10 a.m. when a man sporting dreadlocks and a ski mask charged at him in an attempt to rip a chain off his neck, cops said.

During the ensuing clash, the suspect pulled a gun and opened fire, striking the victim in the stomach.

EMS rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he’s expected to recover.

The gunman ran off. No arrests have been made.

The street where the shooting occurred has several nightclubs and party venues, including The Penthouse and the Stafford Room, cops said. It was not immediately clear if the victim was leaving one of these night spots when he was shot.

Cops were scouring the area for surveillance video in the hopes of identifying the gunman.

The victim is the second person to be shot in the precinct that covers Midtown North this year, cops said. This time last year, three people had been shot, according to NYPD records.
