30 injured after car plows into crowd outside Los Angeles club

Thirty people were injured — seven critically — after a car plowed into a crowd of people waiting to enter a nightclub in Los Angeles early Saturday morning.

The Nissan Versa rammed into a group of people, most of them women, around 2 a.m., according to the Los Angeles City Fire Department. The incident occurred in front of The Vermont Hollywood, a “state-of-the-art multipurpose venue” on N. Vermont Ave and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The car also struck a taco truck and a valet stand, said Adam Van Gerpen, public information officer for the LAFD.

The fire department responded to the scene and transported 23 victims to hospitals and trauma centers, officials said in an update late Saturday morning. Seven were in critical condition, six serious and 10 fair.

Seven others declined to be taken to a hospital after being assessed at the scene.

One of those being treated was the driver of the Nissan, who was allegedly shot by a bystander when a physical fight broke out following the crash, TMZ reported, citing a Los Angeles Police Department source.

The LAPD’s Central Traffic Division later confirmed to the outlet that the driver had been shot and was taken to a local hospital, where they were undergoing surgery Saturday morning.

What led to the crash is currently unclear.

“This is under police investigation,” Van Gerpen said. “This will be a large investigation with the LAPD.”
