Police took an emotionally disturbed man into custody after he stole a boat from a Manhattan marina and took it out for a joyride in the Hudson River Saturday morning, cops said.
Officers were informed around 11:18 a.m. by workers at the Dyckman Marina, near the Henry Hudson Bridge in Inwood, that a 40-year-old man had stolen a sailboat docked there and taken it out into the middle of the Hudson River.
As both the NYPD Aviation Unit and Harbor Unit closed in, the mischievous mariner then jumped from the sailboat onto another unoccupied boat. The Harbor Unit was able to get on board the boat and apprehend him.
The man was taken ashore and to New York-Prebyterian/Columbia Medical Center for evaluation, cops said. A police spokesperson could not immediately confirm a report that the boat thief was naked.
Charges against him were pending.
