Jets QB Justin Fields carted off with apparent lower leg injury

On the second day of training camp, Jets quarterback Justin Fields suffered what looked to be an apparent lower leg injury.

During 11-on-11 drills, Fields limped off following an incomplete pass. After the pass, Fields was holding his ankle as he went down to the ground. The Jets’ training staff checked him out in their medical area off to the side after Fields limped off the field gingerly.

The Jets briefly stopped team drills after he was carted off. Fields later went inside the team facility.

After releasing Aaron Rodgers in March, the Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract. The hope is that Fields could be the long-term solution at quarterback for the Jets and revitalize his career after failed stints with the Bears and Steelers.

If Fields is out for an extended period, that would be devastating to the Jets’ offense in their first season under coach Aaron Glenn.

Tyrod Taylor is the Jets’ backup quarterback. Brady Cook and Adrian Martinez are the other two quarterbacks on the team’s roster.
