Cops arrest suspect who gunned down man outside Midtown 7-11

A 21-year-old murder suspect accused of gunning down a man in Midtown more than a month ago was in custody Friday after he was caught in upstate New York, officials said.

Jamel Williams was brought back to the city after sheriffs in Fulton County, N.Y. recognized him as the man wanted for the June 4 killing outside a 7-11 on W. 42nd St. near Ninth Ave., about two blocks from Times Square.

Williams was pulled over during a routine traffic stop in Johnstown — about 195 miles north of Times Square — on Wednesday afternoon and was taken into custody after learning there was an active warrant for his arrest.

He was immediately brought back to Manhattan, where he was charged with murder and weapons possession for killing 30-year-old Marco Reyes.

Reyes was outside the 7-11 and a neighboring Urgent Care Center at about 10:45 p.m. on June 4 when Williams shot him twice in the head, cops said.

A 911 call brought police, who found Reyes sprawled out on the ground.  Medics rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, but he could not be saved.

It was not immediately clear why Williams shot Reyes. A worker at the 7-11 told the Daily News that Williams was in the store before he stole some food, exited, and shot Reyes.

Williams was not charged with shoplifting, police said.

Reyes lived in the Fordham section of the Bronx, about 10 miles from where he was killed.

His sister Gaby, 29, told The News that Reyes was a restaurant worker at Cafeteria, the trendy Chelsea diner where scenes from “Sex and the City” were filmed.

He was heading home from work when he was killed, she said.

“He shot two times and hit my brother in the head,” she said. “We don’t know who would do this.”

Reyes lived with his family members.

“He was a single guy who loved our family,” his sister said. “He never had any trouble with the law. He went to work and he came home. He never bothered anybody. We’re going through so much right now. He was so young. It’s terrible, we can’t believe it.”

Williams arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Friday.
