Yankees trading pair of prospects for Rockies 3B Ryan McMahon

The Yankees are addressing their need at the hot corner by shipping a pair of prospects to the Colorado Rockies for 2024 All-Star third baseman Ryan McMahon, sources confirmed to the Daily News.

McMahon, 30, has spent his entire nine-year major league career with the Rockies. The California native was originally drafted by Colorado in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

The left-handed hitter has struggled along with the league-worst Rockies this season. He brings a National League-leading 127 strikeouts to the Yankees, along with his .217/.314/.403 slash line. He has 16 home runs and 35 RBI on the season.

On defense, McMahon has started 94 games for Colorado at third with a .978 fielding percentage. He has committed six errors on the season.

McMahon has a career .240 batting average with 140 homers and 452 RBI.

The Yankees are parting ways with a pair of minor-league pitchers — lefty Griffin Herring and righty Josh Grosz — ESPN is reporting.

Heading into next Thursday’s trade deadline, third base was considered a pressing need for the struggling Bombers who head into Friday night’s showdown with the Phillies 4.5 games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East.

Developing story, check back for details.
