Formerly incarcerated reality star Todd Chrisley was so turned off by his wife’s unvarnished appearance upon them being released from prison that he contemplated going back behind bars.
During the latest episode of the “Chrisley Confessions 2.0″ podcast, the couple opened up about their lives since being pardoned by President Trump in May, three years after getting convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion.
Shortly after being sprung from the clink, Julie Chrisley was photographed in Nashville sporting her natural brunette hair with graying roots — a stark contrast to her typically platinum-dyed locks.
“I’m not going to lie. When I first saw you when I got out of that car, I started thinking about going back,” the 56-year-old father of five confessed. “But then I thought, let me embrace this. This is a moment.”
With her jaw dropping, Julie replied: “Are you kidding me, right now?”
Todd attempted to defend his remark, saying he’d never seen Julie with dark hair in his life, calling it a “rough moment.”
His wife of 29 years went on to remind him that she “didn’t have any choice” when it came to her appearance.
“When I went to prison, my hair was blonde but it had a lot of lowlights…before I self-surrendered,” she said. “Then, we actually had a girl that was there at the prison when I got there…she worked in the salon and she was really good and she did highlights for me.”
However, that inmate was released just a few months into Julie’s prison sentence, she explained. Thinking she was going to be in prison until August of 2026, she resorted to letting her hair grow out and the grays grow in.

Admitting she did look “horrible” in the photo captured in Nashville, the “Chrisleys Know Best” matriarch — who has since returned to the blonde locks she’s known for — boasted how people now think she looks “even better” because that picture was out there.
But her husband couldn’t resist teasing: “I will say, you set the bar low, you had nowhere to go but up.”
