Three NYPD cops were hospitalized after they were attacked by a group of teenagers in Coney Island, police said Saturday.
The officers were trying to break up a fight between the teens near the corner of Surf and Stillwell Aves., just steps from Nathan’s in the heart of the Coney Island’s famed amusement area at about 11:45 p.m. Friday, when at least two teens turned on the officers and began pummeling them.
Two of the officers were punched in the face and chest as they were being assaulted, cops said. A third cop was struck in the head with a heavy object, suffering a deep gash.
EMS rushed the three officers to area hospitals, where they were treated and released.
Two 17-year-old teens were taken into custody and charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction of government administration and disorderly conduct.
Their arraignment was pending Saturday.
On May 2, a group of migrants with ties to the gang Tren de Aragua were arrested for jumping two cops trying to prevent a robbery in Times Square in a “wolfpack” style ambush, cops said.
Nearly a dozen teens, who ranged between 12 and 19, were sought for the attack.
“It’s horrific enough to be a victim of a crime,” Mayor Adams said at the time. “When someone openly assaults a police officer, you are attacking our symbol of safety. It cannot be tolerated.”
