Superstar sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend and fellow runner, Christian Coleman.
A verbal argument apparently broke out between the pair as they exited a TSA security checkpoint at the airport last Sunday, a police report said. An officer already on the scene then witnessed Richardson shove Coleman multiple times, even as he tried to walk away from her.
Video of the altercation also allegedly shows Richardson throwing an item at Coleman, believed to be headphones.
She was subsequently taken into custody on a charge of fourth-degree domestic violence assault. The 25-year-old Olympian, and reigning 100-meter world champion, was booked into the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Wash. and released on Monday.
The case was reportedly cleared after police say Coleman “declined to be a victim” or press charges.
“USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,” USA Track and Field said in a statement.
Richardson has not commented publicly on the incident. Her arrest came just days before she ran in the opening round of the women’s 100 meters at USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champ.
In the Paris 2024 Olympics, Richardson earned a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter final. She was also a part of Team USA’s gold medal-winning 4×100-relay team.
Richardson is also well-known for the suspension she earned in 2021 after testing positive for marijuana, forcing her out of the Tokyo Olympics.
