Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was arrested on a felony weapons charge in L.A., authorities said Saturday.
Cops said Perryman, 32, was on his way to a gun range Friday night when he was pulled over for a traffic stop, TMZ reported. Perryman had two assault-style rifles inside the vehicle, according to police.
Perryman was held without bail, and his first court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday morning, according to online jail records.
Cops said they found five weapons inside Perryman’s vehicle, ESPN reported. While three were legally registered handguns, two were illegal rifles, authorities said.
“Denzel and our team are still gathering information and working closely with legal counsel,” Perryman’s agent, Ron Butler, told ESPN. “While I can’t speak to the details at this time, we’re confident things will be handled appropriately through the legal process.”
Perryman started 11 regular season games for the Chargers last season, missing the other six due to injuries. He also started the team’s playoff game, a wild card round loss to the Houston Texans.
The Chargers re-signed Perryman to a one-year contract prior to the 2025 season, and he was expected to play a similarly important role in the upcoming season.
Felony possession of an assault weapon is punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine under California law. Perryman has no criminal history, making him unlikely to face the maximum sentence.
