A Bronx toddler apparently drowned while in the care of a sitter who stepped away for about 20 minutes to cook, police said Monday.
Police responding to a 12:51 p.m. 911 call Friday about a child who drowned at a home on Story Ave. near Olmstead Ave. in Castle Hill.
News 12 Bronx reported that the house is a home-based daycare center.
Medics rushed 21-month-old River Wilson to Montefiore Einstein Hospital but she could not be saved.
Little River was being cared for by a 47-year-old woman who told police she was cooking and at some point realized she hadn’t seen the girl for about 20 minutes. She then found her in the pool, police said.
It’s not yet clear if the sitter will be criminally charged.
