A woman died Monday evening after she was pulled from the water by lifeguards finishing up their shift at Manhattan Beach Park.
The 55-year-old woman was unconscious and unresponsive when first responders arrived at the beach around 6:14 p.m. near Oriental Blvd., cops said. It was unclear how the woman ended up in the water.
EMS transported the woman to Coney Island Hospital where she died.
Lifeguards are on duty at the beach from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and swimming is prohibited when they are off duty.
Last Wednesday, almost 2 miles away from Manhattan Beach, a Brooklyn teen drowned in the waters off Coney Island near the iconic Cyclone rollercoaster. Jun Alexander Obas, 18, had autism and epilepsy — and suffered a medical episode in the water just before he went under, his mother told the Daily News on Monday.
Obas was with his mom and two sisters enjoying his first-ever day at the beach last Wednesday afternoon when he apparently drowned near W. 10th St. and Surf Ave. around 3 p.m.
“He wanted to enjoy the beach,” Karla Judith Obas said in Spanish. “He was asking a lot. We never went to the beach with him because of the epilepsy.”
Medics rushed the teen to South Brooklyn Health, where he was pronounced dead 20 minutes later, cops said.
