A New Jersey woman was charged with DWI while trying to give a ride home from jail to a friend who had been arrested for drunk driving.
Police in Washington Township responding to a call about a car crash arrested a 56-year-old man for driving while intoxicated around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to NJ.com.
His 47-year-old passenger was reportedly given a ride home by an officer who believed she too was intoxicated. He told the woman she would have to arrange for someone else to pick up her friend, NJ.com reported.
But about 30 minutes later, she allegedly tried to do it herself.
Shortly after midnight, she arrived at the police station to pick up her friend, who’d reportedly recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.11%. She too was taken into custody with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16% — twice the legal limit.
Both suspects’ cars were impounded. Washington Township authorities haven’t returned a request for comment.
