Lil Durk hit with 2 new felony charges, facing life in prison

Grammy winner Lil Durk has been charged with two new felonies in a 2022 murder-for-hire plot intended to kill rival rapper Quando Rondo, for which he was arrested last month.

If convicted, he’s facing a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison.

A superseding federal grand jury indictment has charged the 32-year-old rapper, real name Durk Banks, with one count of conspiracy and one count of using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California announced Friday.

Durk is also charged with one count of using, carrying and discharging firearms and a machine gun, as well as possession of those firearms “in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.”

The “When We Shoot” rapper is accused of orchestrating the attempted assassination of Quando Rondo at a gas station in Los Angeles in August 2022. Though Rondo survived the shooting, his cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson, was killed.

The shooting has been described by the feds as an attempted revenge killing. Rondo is believed to have been involved in a 2020 shooting in Atlanta that killed three men, including up-and-coming rapper King Von, a member of Durk’s Chicago-based hip-hop collective, Only the Family (OTF).

Durk was taken into custody last month in Miami as he attempted to flee the country on a private flight to Italy, according to FBI Agent Sarah Corcoran. Earlier in the day, five other members of OTF — Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston — were arrested in Chicago for their involvement in the murder-for-hire at the direction of Durk, Corcoran said.

According to an earlier affidavit, those men traveled to California to carry out the hit and were provided with vehicles and guns — all paid for by Durk.

The rapper has since been added as the lead defendant on last month’s indictment charging all six men in connection with the murder, none of whom have yet to enter a plea. They’re expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles in the coming weeks.

Prior to his arrest, Durk had been honored by the Chicago suburb of Broadview, which had teamed up with the rapper’s nonprofit, Neighborhood Heroes Foundation.

On the day his arrest became public, Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson announced the village was cutting ties with the youth organization and was “withdrawing our honorary ‘key to the village’ granted to Durk” a week earlier.
