3 teens arrested in murder of South Jersey man

Three teenagers were arrested Monday for the murder of a New Jersey man on Friday night, authorities announced.

Thomas Smith III, 20, was found dead around 7 p.m. Friday in Millville, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s office said in a statement. When cops arrived, he was suffering from a gunshot to the head, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Jequise Forrest, Alonzo E. Mincey and Jerramiah J. Michael, all 19, were quickly identified as suspects in the killing, according to authorities.

Several charges against all three teens were filed on Sunday, when they were named as suspects in the case but before they were captured.

Less than 24 hours after the three teens were publicly identified, they were arrested at an apartment complex in Bridgeton, just west of Millville, prosecutors said. Despite hailing from different South Jersey towns, they were all located just after 12 p.m. in the same apartment, cops said.

Forrest, Mincey and Michael were all charged with six crimes: first-degree murder, first-degree murder conspiracy, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree assault conspiracy and two weapons crimes. Forrest was also charged with a seventh crime, possession of a high-capacity magazine.

Police have not publicly speculated on a motive for the shooting or provided any details about Smith’s prior relationship with the three men, or how they were identified as suspects.
