Sabrina Carpenter, J Balvin to perform


MTV announced Monday its first round of performers and honorees for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.

Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, Busta Rhymes, Alex Warren, J Balvin ft. DJ Snake, and Sombr are set to take the stage at the awards show which will be broadcast live from UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., on Sept. 7.

Hosted by LL Cool J, the ceremony will include J Balvin’s performance of “Zun Zun” with Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavárez — plus the live premiere of “Noventa” with DJ Snake.

Carpenter, who made her VMA debut last year with a three-song medley, is nominated for eight awards this year, including Video of the Year (“Manchild”) from her forthcoming album Man’s Best Friend.

Special Moonperson trophies will be awarded to Rhymes and Martin. Grammy Award-winning artist Martin will be honored with the first-ever Latin Icon Award, while hip hop veteran Rhymes will take home the inaugural MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award.

Rhymes, 53, was honored with the Hip Hop Icon Award at Harlem Week on Sunday at St. Nicholas Park in New York City. The East Flatbush, Brooklyn native, known for rap classics such as “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Aug. 1.

Lady Gaga leads the pack of nominees with a dozen nods this year. She already has 18 VMAs to her credit. This year, she competes in categories including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year and Best Album.

For the first time ever, the MTV Music Video Awards will air on CBS beginning at 8 p.m. ET. on Sunday, Sept. 7. The will also simulcast on MTV and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.

Additional performers, presenters and appearances will be revealed in the coming weeks.
