Wednesday night’s $643 million Powerball drawing will be for the multistate lottery’s largest jackpot of the year.
Lottery officials last awarded a winner on May 31. The ongoing 34-game drought includes Monday night’s drawing, which produced a pair of million dollar winners who got close but didn’t match all five numbers and the red Powerball. The jackpot for that drawing was $605 million.
The lump-sum cash payout for Wednesday’s 10:59 p.m. drawing in Tallahassee, Fla. will be around $290.6 million.
Tickets can be purchased for $2 in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Powerball began with 15 states in 1992. New York joined the competition in 2010.
Powerball’s largest ever prize went to a California man who grossed $2.04 billion in November 2022.
Gaming site Powerball.net found the most commonly drawn balls, in order, are 61, 21, 23, 33 and 69. The most often drawn Powerball is the number four, which came up for the 60th time on Aug. 13.
The most “overdue” Powerball number is 16, which last came up in November.
If there’s no winner Wednesday, another drawing for an even larger prize takes place Saturday.
